Review by Allison Martin Moving Heaven and Earth is the first hand account of Barbara Birdsey's adoption of her baby from Guatemala and her rather unnerving experiences as an adoption facilitator. This is not your usual personal adoption story as Birdsey ran into some serious problems during her adoption and in her efforts to assist others to adopt. The book describes in great detail the ups and downs of her adoption expereinces. Most international adoptions end very happily, but some do not and some leave parents with residual concerns. In effect, this book that describes some of the flaws of adoption education and regulation in the United States, as well as pitfalls that can arise for those adopting internationally. Her experiences make a good case about the need for better adoption regulation and oversight. |
